One Commander is a free alternative file manager for Windows 10

Windows File Explorer has basic functions, and it’s hard to get things done quickly enough. Most of the time is wasted navigating and finding folders. This calls for the need for an alternative software for Explorer, and today we are talking about A commander.

One Commander Alternative File Manager for Windows

Instead of just being a dual window file manager, One Commander offers both a dual window view and a multiple column view. You can choose this when you launch it for the first time. Along with that, you can choose between white, dark and light theme.

A single control mode

A commander’s disposition

While it’s pretty straightforward to use, the layout requires a bit of understanding. So when you select dual pane or columns mode, it looks like four windows. Each of the components has two parts. The upper part shows only folders and drives, while the lower part also shows files.

The left section gives you quick access to drives, favorites, and options to connect to a network computer, map network drives, and also connect to secure network drives.

One Commander Layout Colors

Top commands offer changing shutter mode, configuration and opening improves file operations which we’ll talk about in a moment.

If you see any colors in the interface that’s something to like, they refer to the size of the folder, files, and drives, as well as the date modified.

One Commander file operations

One Commander is a free alternative file manager

It is a complete user interface based interface where you can do a lot with your mouse and keyboard. Right click on any file or folder and you get quick access to file operations (cut, copy paste), rename files, open folder in tab, open in next pane, etc. .

The file operation is also built between panes that appear when you select one of the files. You can quickly copy files between them, open Command Prompt, rename, etc.

File processor functionality

Batch features in One Commander

In the main mode, which is completely free to use, you can choose to bulk rename, run scripts, and convert images to JPGs. It supports file renaming rules, transforms # into a sequence number, and replaces invalid characters in file names. You can add multiple rules.

If you like the software, you can always switch to Pro mode to access other features that I think are worth the money.

One Commander Configuration offers you

  • Change the look and feel
  • Metadata preview details
  • Control performance if it becomes heavy on the system by reducing the number of threads running in parallel.
  • Enable the option to keep files in their original location when copying files.
  • And more.

Overall, it’s a great alternative to Windows Explorer and for those who love the user interface and need the extra functionality; it offers excellent operations. And when you need it, you can also open the Windows Explorer context menu right in the software.
